MA English Literature

The Master of Arts in English Literature is a postgraduate program designed to provide an advanced understanding of literary traditions, critical theories, and linguistics.

About the Programme

The Master of Arts in English Literature at Don Bosco Arts and Science College is designed to nurture intellectual growth, advanced language proficiency, and critical thinking skills. The programme offers students a comprehensive understanding of literary texts, theories, and emerging interdisciplinary perspectives, while strengthening their writing, communication, and analytical abilities.

Established in 2012, the programme offers an academically enriching environment with an intake of 15 students. The Department of English follows a well-structured curriculum and syllabus that reflect contemporary developments in language and literary studies. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary learning and research, enabling students to engage with cultural, aesthetic, historical, geographical, and theoretical dimensions of literature.

The two-year MA programme spans four semesters and offers diverse courses in literary studies, linguistic studies, cultural studies, media studies, global studies, and the new humanities. These courses encourage critical inquiry, creativity, and research-oriented learning, helping students develop a holistic understanding of literature and society.

Along with core and elective papers, students can pursue value-added and skill enhancement courses that broaden their academic and professional competencies. A distinctive feature of the programme is the opportunity for students to specialize in an area of interest and undertake in-depth research, culminating in dissertation work and academic publications. Through the study of literature and human experiences, the programme fosters cultural awareness, empathy, and social responsibility.

    Graduates in English Language and Literature, as well as graduates from other streams such as Languages and Literature, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Oriental Studies, are eligible for admission.

  • Duration: 30 Hours (5 Hours × 6 Saturdays)
  • Mode: Offline / Instructor-led
  • Focus: Writing-based sessions with individual and peer-reviewed tasks
  • Outcome: One fully written 500–750-word blog or article, and one 1500–2000-word short story

BA English

The Bachelor of Arts in English is an undergraduate program that offers a comprehensive exploration of English literature, from classical to contemporary works, along with language studies.

  • Eligibility Criteria:
    Candidates who have successfully completed Higher Secondary Education (10+2) or its equivalent from a recognized board are eligible for admission.
