MA Journalism & Mass Communication

The Postgraduate Department of Journalism and Mass Communication offers a well-balanced curriculum that integrates theoretical knowledge with extensive practical training.

About the Programme

The programme equips students with professional skills, ethical values, and critical understanding required for the evolving media industry, covering areas such as digital journalism, broadcast media, film studies, photography, editing, and documentary production.

With a strong emphasis on experiential learning, the department provides hands-on exposure through workshops, internships, and live projects in newspaper reporting, TV news production, cinematography, sound design, and multimedia content creation under the guidance of experienced faculty and industry professionals.

The department is distinguished by its state-of-the-art infrastructure, including a high-end studio with the latest media technologies, a fully equipped news production studio, and advanced Mac-based editing suites. Designed to meet contemporary industry demands, the department offers specialized training in print, electronic, and digital media, enabling students to develop the technical expertise and creative excellence essential for successful media careers.

Eligibility For Admission

Candidates who have passed a Bachelor Degree course of Kannur University or any other university recognized by Kannur University as equivalent thereto and have secured a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate are eligible to apply. Candidates from SC/ST and other backward communities will get relaxation in marks as per the university rules.

Additional Weightage
  • Graduates with journalism as complementary: 3% marks or GPA
  • Bachelor degree holders in Journalism / Multimedia Communication / Visual Communication / Film Production / Video Production as main subjects: 6% marks or GPA
