The First Semester University Examinations for MA English Literature and MCom Finance students will start on Monday January 23, 2017 and will end on wednesday February 1. The examination is from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

The final year BA English Literature students celebrated their friendship being together on a refreshing tour to Ooty, Kodaikanal and Vaalpara from the evening on Wednesday 11th January 2017 to 15th Sunday early morning, accompanied by three Faculty Members: Anila Mary Thomas, Sojimon C.C., and Aiswarya P. There were 38 students of whom 29 were girls and nine of them were boys. Albert James and Anugraha Jose were the student co-ordinators. “We enjoyed the trip to the full going around in full gusto to Doddapetta, Pine Valley, Pillar Rock, Guna Cave, Kodaokanal Lake,and Nirar Dam. There was never a dull moment. It was a big gala,” said Athira Kishore, one of the students. “As teachers, we had a tension-free trip. Students were very collaborative, following our instructions genuinely. It was a thrilling trip for all,” said Anila Mary Thomas, the Staff Coordinator.

K.A. Francis, noted painter, former Chairman, Kerala Lalitakala Academy and Editor-in-Charge, ‘Malayala Manorama Weekly’, along with Jeevanchi, a known portrait painter in Kannur region, conducted a painting workshop for students with artistic intelligence on Monday, 9th January 2017. There were about 30 students participating in the training programme. The workshop was an initiative of the College Union to make the students more equipped for the Arts Fest to be held on January 20 and 21. In the afternoon, K.A. Francis took an additional session on ‘Investigative Journalism’ for BA English Literature students, sharing his thrilling and challenging experiences of exclusives while he was working in ‘Malayala Manorama’ newspaper.

The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Riyas N.P. took an infotainment session for National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers on Tuesday 11th January 2017, offering them practical tips to be safe on the road while driving. The programme was organized as part of Road Safety Week Celebrations observed by the Motor Vehicles Department. The tiny state of Kerala stands third in India in terms of road accidents with 4,000 deaths and 40,000 injuries every year. Though Kerala accounted for only around three per cent of the Indian population, it contributed ten per cent of road accidents. Kerala was only behind large states like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu when it comes to road crashes and casualities. Road accident was the third major cause of death and disability in Kerala. 84 per cent of those killed and 82 per cent of those who suffer injuries in road accident are males. Every day in Kerala around eleven people die and 150 get injured in road accidents. Pedestrians and bike users account for around 80 per cent of road accident deaths in Kerala.

In the National Intercollegiate Debate Competition ‘Speak for India’ at Providence Women’s College, Kozhikode, organized by Mathrubhumi & Federal Bank, Akhin Maria doing her second year postgraduate programme in Journalism (MCJ) won the third prize with a cash award of Rs.7000.

In the All Kerala Intercollegiate Competition organized by the National Co-operative Union held in Kannur, Akhin Maria from the Fourth Semester MCJ (2015 - 17) - (Master of Communication and Journalism) won the first prize both in Malayalam Essay and Speech competitions. The topic for the speech competition was ‘The role of Co-operative Movement in India’s Development’ and for the essay, ‘Co-operative Union: Challenges and Possibilities’. She received a cash award of Rs.6, 000.

In the finals of the Interdepartmental Football Tournament organized by the College Union on Thursday 12th January 2017, BCom Computer Application students defeated BBA team in a neck-and-neck match. The score was 1-1 in the given time. Aksah scored for BCom and Jerin for BBA. In the shootouts to decide the winners, BCom players shot four goals. BBA could only send one goal into the post, missing the other shots. The best player of the tournament is Akhil Baby from BCom Computer Application. The top scorers are Chandrasekhar, Anandu, and Yellappa from BCom Computer Application, Febin from BCA and Jerin Jaison from BBA. Each of them shot two goals in the week-long tournament. The third place was for BCA-BSc Mathematics and the fourth place for BA English Literature. Sri. Sajith, Sub-Inspector, Karikotakari Police Station presented the trophies to the winners in the concluding ceremony.

‘Scintilla-17’, the Arts Fest at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, will be held on Thursday and Friday, January 19 and 20, 2017. Arts Fest is organized holding the competitions in the interdepartmental contest mode. MCA, BCom Computer Application, BCom Co-operation, BA English Literature, BBA, and BSW will participate in the competitions independently. BSc Mathematics and BCA will compete as a combined team. MCJ, MSW, MCom and MA English Literature will also contest combined. Bibin Antony, Director of Physical Education, Rajish CK, Faculty in the Department of Malayalam, Biju John T., Faculty in the Department of Social Work, Anu AS, In-Charge, MA English Literature, Rasik K.V, College Union Arts Secretary, and the other College Union Leaders will co-ordinate ‘Scintilla-17’.

MSW Third Semester University examinations will commence on Friday January 13, 2017 and will end on Monday, January 23.

The 7-day residential camp conducted for National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers at St. Thomas Higher Secondary School in Manikkadavu from Monday December 16, 2016 to Sunday January 1, 2017 was a treasured experience for the second year undergraduate students, widening and deepening their circle of relationship, nurturing their social intelligence, strengthening their leadership qualities, mastering the art of adjustment to inconveniences, refurbishing their smartness , and enhancing their personality. The prime focus of the NSS camp was on making bunds in Ulikkal Panchayath to conserve water against the impending drought because of shortage of rainfall last year. The bunds were made in close collaboration with the Panchayath authorities and the local people. Phoenix Thaliparambu handled a session on personality development and success in life. Saji Varghese, a cancer survivor, shared his inspiring experiences of his successful battle with cancer. There was a session on safety measures to be adopted for driving by experts from the motor vehicles department. The music troupe from Mattannur made one of the evenings sweet and melodious. The psycho-reality show by JCI trainers JC Abbobakker P.P. and JC Ramachandran K.T. was a soothing experience for all. The action-packed session on social conscience and social intelligence by Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat made the students more vibrant. The debate competition on Cashless Kerala animated by Nisha Sajan, Faculty from the Department of Commerce broadened their mental horizons. Documentaries were also screened to get attuned to the beauties of nature. The trekking to Kanjirakolli and Sasippara was a thrilling and adventurous spree. The cultural extravaganza every night, the grand new year midnight celebrations, the cooking creativity, the newspaper work, the swim in the river, the fun, frolics and the light moments with the staff and the friends made ‘Opparam 2016’ an incredible gala of friendship. College Union Inauguration on 16th January 2017

The Department of Social Work at Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, in collaboration with Kerala Women’s Commission, will organize National Conference on ‘Social Work Perspectives of Women Empowerment’.

In the General Body Meeting of the Past Pupils of Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, Shanu Salman (MCJ 2012-2014 Batch), the Faculty In-Charge, Department of Journalism (MCJ) at Pazhassi Raja College, Pulpally in Wayanad affiliated to the University of Calicut was unanimously chosen as the President of the Alumni Association. The Alumni Association will be officially registered under the Societies of Registration Act, 1860 with Memorandum of Understanding and Bylaws for legal recognition and NAAC accreditation. Suzenna Babu (BCom Computer Application 2012-2015 Batch) is the Vice-President. Ann Treessa Benny (BA English 2012-2015 Batch) is the Secretary. Muhammad Abdul Basith (BBA 2012-2015 Batch) is the Treasurer and Akhila Tomy (BSc Mathematics 2012-2015 Batch) is the Joint Secretary. Angle Mary Mathew (BA English 2012-2015 Batch), Athira K. Louis (BSC Mathematics 2012-2015 Batch), Dayana (BCom Computer Application 2012-2015 Batch) Abbas P.M 2012-2015 Batch), Neena Thomas (BCA 2012-2015 Batch), Harsha C.J. (MSW 2011-2013 Batch), and Jince John (MCJ 2013-2015 Batch) are the members of the Executive Committee. In the open forum, it was suggested that the annual gathering could be held during Christmas holidays and the date should be communicated to all ahead of time. The decision on integrating cultural programme into the annual gathering and on the introduction of scholarship for deserving students was left to the executive committee. There was also a proposal to launch an online newsletter for the alumni. Principal Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat inaugurated the Alumni Meet. Staff co-ordinator Biju John T welcomed the gathering. Alumni Association President Shanu Salman proposed vote of thanks. The programme was concluded with fellowship meal in the auditorium.
